'Don’t get distracted' - Roy Keane's advice to Newcastle United star Matty Longstaff

Former Manchester United captain Roy Keane has advised Matty Longstaff to keep his down and concentrate on being a professional footballer.

The Newcastle Academy graduate has been the centre of a media frenzy after netting his side's winning goal against Manchester United at the beginning of the month.

Longstaff stunned the Red Devils on his Premier League debut to hand his side a 1-0 win at the St James’ Park - and since then he has been the focus of multiple interview requests.

But Kean has warned Longstaff, whose elder brother Sean is also a Newcastle United regular, not to get distracted.

“Keep your head down and concentrate on being a professional footballer,” Kean replied when asked what advice he had for the 19-year-old on Sky Sports.

“Obviously he done very well against United, any time a young player does well, especially against United, a lot of plaudits and a lot of requests for interviews.

“Keep your head down and concentrating on being a player. Obviously he had another tough game last weekend against Chelsea and now another big test for him today.

“But just focus on being a professional footballer. Don’t get distracted.

“And the problem is for him up there is that he’s a local lad. So there will be even more expectation. But keep has to keep his head down and hopefully people like Brucey (Steve Bruce) around him will look after him.”
