Don’t expect too much from Ryan Fitzpatrick

“Oh no! The Dolphins signed Ryan Fitzpatrick and are now going to win too many games to draft a quarterback in the 2020 NFL Draft!”

Hold your horses. Not so fast. Who are we talking about here again? Ryan Fitzpatrick?

The same Ryan Fitzpatrick who has never played more than 4 seasons Buffalo) in any one NFL city? The same quarterback who has started for seven NFL franchises and has a winning record as the starter with exactly none of them?

Sure, Ryan Fitzpatrick was exciting in 2018 as the quarterback of Tampa Bay. But it’s not exactly like he was very good after starting red hot and going 2-1 in the team’s first three games (he lost his final four starts with the team).

His style of play will yield a different kind of experience for Dolphins’ fans. No more passive play from the pocket. He’s going to air it out and let some of these speedy receivers run under the ball.

But the question begs to be asked: is Ryan Fitzpatrick really the quarterback who is going to draw the best out of this undermanned offense and carry this team on his back?

The answer is no.

Ultimately, Ryan Fitzpatrick owns a 0.397 winning percentage over 126 games started in the NFL. A lot of those years with teams more talented than the 2019 Miami Dolphins are going to be.

Miami has said they aren’t going to try to lose, but they probably won’t have to. They’ve stripped off a few key players to set themselves up for the future. So now, with Fitzpatrick’s erratic play, one good offensive lineman (Laremy Tunsil) and no good pass rushers on the other side of the football, Miami’s issues extend well beyond what is realistic to expect Ryan Fitzpatrick to transcend.
