Don’t expect Titans LB Derrick Morgan to return in 2019

With the free agency period on the 2019 NFL offseason schedule, the Titans will be parting ways with some players and bringing new names to Nashville.

The team will likely lose both starting outsider linebackers, with veteran Brian Orakpo announcing his retirement in the offseason, and Derrick Morgan an unrestricted free agent.

Based on Morgan’s recent comments via Titans Online, it doesn’t sound like he has plans to be with Tennessee in the upcoming season.

“I want to see what the market looks like for me, and what my options are outside of Tennessee and we’ll go from there”, he said. “I think the Titans have a great group of guys in that locker room, so I’ll always wish them success”.

If Morgan is to leave, Harold Landry and Kamalei Correa will be thrust into an even larger role that pushes them to the top of the depth chart. The duo has proven reliable in the past, recording a combined total of eight sacks in 2018.

The Titans will also likely make use of the 2019 NFL Draft to add some extra insurance behind Correa and Landry to make up for the loss of two players.

The other option is to add someone to the roster that already has NFL experience — and the Titans have the money to make some moves with $34.6 million in cap space.

Regardless of how they do it, it will be interesting to see the moves the Titans make before next season kicks off with voids like this one to fill.
