Don’t expect more than 1 series for Kyler Murray in preseason opener

Arizona Cardinals head coach Kliff Kingsbury has not specified exactly what his plans are for playing time for his starters in the team’s preseason opener on Thursday.

When asked on Saturday, he made it sound like plans were finalized. However, comments suggest fans won’t see more than one series from rookie quarterback Kyler Murray.

“I think the goal is for us to get him out of the game with him feeling good about what went on out there,” Kingsbury told reporters after Saturday’s morning walkthrough. “So whatever that takes, if it’s three plays, it will be three plays. If it’s 10-12 plays, it will be 12.”

Three plays would be a three-and-out. 10 or 12 plays would be a long drive, ideally ending with points.

It is fair to say that one drive will probably be it for Murray. Other starters might come out a little later, though, as Kingsbury said he would like to give backup QB Brett Hundley playing time behind a good offensive line.
