Don’t expect Bobby Wagner to take a hometown discount

The Seattle Seahawks took care of business with two of the four players looking for contract extensions – signing Russell Wilson to a four-year, $140 million dollar deal and trading pass rusher Frank Clark to the Chiefs.

That leaves middle linebacker Bobby Wagner and defensive tackle Jarran Reed, both who are looking to have their financial futures locked up long term in Seattle.

Wagner, who represents himself, made it clear that he is willing to play out the 2019 season without an extension if he does not get the deal that he wants. According to NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero, Wagner is well aware of his value and isn’t planning to take a hometown discount to stay in Seattle next season.

Of course, the Seahawks have over $100 million in cap space at the moment, even after signing Wilson, giving them plenty of room to bring back both Wagner and Reed if they want to.

Wagner, 28, is coming off another outstanding season with the Seahawks, making his fifth Pro Bowl appearance and being named an All-Pro for the fourth time.

Although the two sides have not begun negotiations yet, they are expected to start talking around the start of training camp – which is when Seattle typically likes to take care of these matters.
