Don’t count on the Titans wearing throwback Oilers uniforms any time soon

Heated debate was sparked after Houston Texans defensive end J.J. Watt made a comment hinting his team should get the rights to the old Houston Oilers uniforms.

He later said he understood why the Texans couldn’t wear the uniforms, and took to Twitter with a follow-up comment on the situation.

“I understand why, but man it’s such a shame we can’t rock the baby blue Houston Oiler throwback uniforms one time,” he tweeted shortly after making his initial comment.

Needless to say, this idea was not well received by the majority of the Titans fan base. But apparently, the odds of us seeing any team at all wearing Oilers colors again are slim to none.

According to Titans team reporter Jim Wyatt, there’s not a good chance Tennessee – the team holding the rights to the throwbacks – will bring back the old uniforms.

“I know there’s been a lot of chatter about this. And it’s been a popular question in the mailbag and in emails over the years,” he wrote.

But the notion of the Texans ever obtaining the rights to them is even more unlikely.

“The talk of the Texans wearing them is crazy talk… I’m also skeptical about the Titans wearing them, too, at least any time soon. They’re currently “retired,” and the focus is currently on wearing the new light blues. You never say never, but I don’t get the sense it’s on the front burner.”
