'Don't care' - Luke Ayling's verdict on VAR controversy as he revels in 'crazy' Leeds United win

Leeds United defender Luke Ayling dismissed any complaints from Wolves regarding the VAR controversy during his side's 4-2 win at Molineux as he opened up on what he labelled a "crazy game" of football.

Ayling's free header at the far post in the second-half was one of the four goals that Javi Gracia's side would score against Wolves on Saturday afternoon. The full-back was joined by Jack Harrison, Rasmus Kristensen and Rodrigo on the scoresheet as Leeds claimed a vital three points in their battle against relegation.

VAR was called into question on multiple occasions during the game, noticeably after they recommended referee Michael Salisbury upgrade an initial yellow card to a straight sending off for Jonny's tackle on Ayling; but also after the official refused to change his mind to rule out Rodrigo's late strike despite being sent to the monitor to check for a foul from Marc Roca in the build-up to the goal.

Ayling however refused to be drawn into comment on any of the decisions as he admitted that Leeds cannot afford to be as "sloppy" as they were against Wolves in their remaining 11 matches this season.

“It was a crazy game,” Ayling told club media. “We came here last year on the same day and had another crazy game. It was just up and down, we played really well to get 3-0 up and then we just let the game go. We let them back into it, we saw the game out well in the end but we can’t let them two goals in to make it close.

“I don’t care about that!” Ayling replied when asked about the standard of officiating and VAR's use. “I walk away with three points, I don’t care what happened so I won’t comment on that.

“We worked on things in the week, to come away and score four goals in the Premier League is hard so it’s great to come away and do that."

Yet the Leeds man was far from pleased with the manner in which his side allowed Wolves back into the game after taking a 3-0 lead in the match.

“We have got to be better to make sure that can’t happen," he added. "We can’t go 3-0 up and then let in two sloppy goals like that which makes it game on. We played so well to go 3-0 up, we felt comfortable in the game then one goal makes it a little bit nerve-wracking, then they score the second and it’s really nerve-wracking so we’ve done well to close it out in the end.

"We set up well, they had a good spell in the first-half after our goal. We had to weather that and then we scored two good goals, so delighted [with the win].”
