Don Mattingly will be the Miami Marlins' manager in 2018.
"I didn't know a decision had to be made," president of baseball operations Michael Hill said Thursday when asked about Mattingly's status. "He's under contract. Just spoke to him today, he's doing great."
Last month, CEO Derek Jeter declined to say outright that Mattingly would return.
Hill also said that outfield/baserunning coach Lorenzo Bundy, whose contract was not renewed, will not be replaced but that "his responsibilities will be absorbed within the staff."
The Marlins intend on hiring a new bullpen catcher to replace Jeff Urgelles, who was also not renewed.
