Don Mattingly has been hired as manager of the Miami Marlins, the Associated Press reported Thursday, citing a source who requested anonymity.
The former Yankees first baseman was fired as manager of the Dodgers last week despite a 446-363 record in five seasons with Los Angeles, including NL West division titles in each of the last three. But his teams went just 8-11 in the post-season, winning just one playoff series in that span.
Mattingly will succeed Dan Jennings, the former Marlins general manager who made the unusual move to manager in May.
Miami finished third at 71-91 this year, 19 games adrift of the New York Mets in the NL East.
