Don Lemon Apologizes for Comments He Made About a Woman's 'Prime' on Thursday Morning

Everyone puts their foot in their mouth from time to time, but CNN anchor Don Lemon did a more superlative job of it than most during a CNN This Morning segment that aired on Feb. 16.

As the conversation steered towards Nikki Haley's call for mental competency tests for older politicians, Lemon let fly with some strange comments -- especially considering that he was telling them to Poppy Harlow and Kaitlan Collins, his two female co-hosts.

"This whole talk about age makes me uncomfortable," Lemon said. "I think that -- I think it's the wrong road to go down. She says people -- politicians or something are not in their prime? Nikki Haley isn't in her prime. Sorry. When a woman is considered to be in her prime in her 20s and 30s and maybe 40s."

When Collins and Harlow responded to Lemon's comments with the appropriate reaction of "What are you talking about?", Lemon proceeded to pull out his figurative shovel and dig his hole deeper.

"If you look it up -- if you Google when is a woman in her prime, it'll say 20s, 30s, and 40s -- I don't necessarily agree with that -- so I think she has to be careful about saying that politicians aren't in their prime and they need to be," he said.

To the surprise of basically no one, Lemon was quickly roasted all over social media for his comments, which were deemed sexist, leading the anchor to tweet an apology just after 1:30 PM.

Lemon's commenters, however, felt the apology was hollow -- especially the female ones.

Lemon did have one unusual defender, however: Kareem Abdul-Jabbar.
