Don Hutchison pays touching Glenn Roeder tribute as Scotland cap recalls late manager going above and beyond in crisis

Scotland cap Don Hutchison has paid tribute to his former West Ham boss Glenn Roeder after his passing.

The English League Managers Association has announced the tragic news that the ex-Newcastle, Gillingham and Norwich boss had passed away following a battle with illness.

Hutchison has remembered the former Hammers gaffer and told of how he helped him when his father passed away.

Hutchison tweeted: "le (I will) never ever forget when my dad was passing away.

"The gaffer told me to get in my car to Newcastle and go see him quick.

"Glenn was on the phone with me for all 5 hours of my journey! Sleep well gaffer. My thoughts are with his family."

Roeder also enjoyed a successful playing career at Leyton Orient before going on to represent Queens Park Rangers, Newcastle, Watford and Gillingham.

The LMA said it was "very deeply saddened" at Roeder's death "after a long battle with a brain tumour".
