Don Barclay filling in for injured Ron Leary at Broncos OTAs

Denver Broncos offensive guard Ron Leary is recovering from a torn Achilles and hasn’t been working with the team’s first-team offense at organized team activities. The team remains hopeful that he will be completely healed by mid-July.

“Hopefully Ron makes a full recovery from him injury, which I think he can and he will,” coach Vic Fangio said after practice Monday. “Everything has been positive both from the medial people and from talking to him.

“We’re hoping Ron makes it back. Hopefully we’ll see him partaking by the last couple of practices before we go on break and he’ll be ready to go full [speed] at training camp.”

With Leary sidelined, second-round pick Dalton Risner has been practicing at left guard and veteran Don Barclay has been filling in at right guard.

“He’s in the mix there in the o-line,” Fangio said of Barclay. “He’s a veteran player who has played a lot of places, played a lot of football. He’s in there competing with everybody.”

Barclay, 30, started in 24 games for the Green Bay Packers from 2012-2016. He will provide valuable depth for Denver even after Leary returns to the starting lineup.

In other injury news, Fangio said Monday that cornerback Isaac Yiadom (shoulder) participated in seven-on-seven drills and is getting closer to being ready for 11-on-11 sessions.

With Chris Harris holding out and Yiadom sidelined, Bryce Callahan and De’Vante Bausby have been the team’s top cornerbacks at OTAs. Kareem Jackson has been working at safety.
