Domino's lodges plans for new outlet at Mansfield's 'Stockwell Gateway' development

Plans have officially been lodged to build the new-and-improved Domino's Pizza takeaway in Mansfield town centre.

The new outlet, which will be in place at the Stockwell Gateway development, will replace the company's old base in the adjacent Rosemary Centre when the wider project is complete.

The development will see three food outlets created at the site of the former bus station, alongside a 100-bed chain hotel just a stone's throw from the town centre.

Alongside Domino's Pizza, there will be a Taco Bell restaurant and the Canadian company Tim Horton's.

The council-backed scheme was approved by Mansfield District Council in November 2020 and comes as part of a £12 million plan to revamp the disused bus station facility.

The Domino's Pizza planning application says: "[Planning permission was] granted on November 3, 2020 for the redevelopment of the former bus station site with a hotel development and three restaurants.

"Unit 4 of the development has consent for a restaurant with takeaway facilities, which will be occupied by Domino’s.

"With Domino’s being a hot food takeaway, [it] requires a permission for a hot food takeaway to ensure it can operate lawfully and in compliance with the planning permission."

The project was widely welcomed in Mansfield when the three businesses were unveiled last month.

Michael Henry, 62, a retired teacher who lives in Mansfield, believed new development will make the town "more appealing".

He told Nottinghamshire Live: "Both the hotels and the restaurants are good ideas for Mansfield in the grand scheme of things.

"Obviously at the minute with Covid people can't go out and have food, and people can't go and stay away in other places.

"But the town has got to recover from lockdown. If we have got more restaurants in town and somewhere to stay, it might make the town more appealing.

"People from other parts of the country might actually want to come here."

Andy Abrahams, Mansfield's Labour mayor, also welcomed the news.

He said: “We are delighted to be welcoming these renowned brands to Mansfield, where they will widen the choice available to residents and visitors.

“Securing these popular national and international food and drink establishments for Stockwell Gateway, shows confidence in Mansfield and will serve as a catalyst for future growth and investment."

Nikki Rolls, the chief executive at Mansfield Business Improvement District (BID), added: “It’s brilliant to see these well-known brands seeing the potential that Stockwell Gateway offers."

Domino's has been contacted for further comment.
