Domino's launches huge recruitment drive with 8,000 new jobs up for grabs

Domino's is hiring more than 8,000 drivers to beat the expected Christmas boom in ordering pizzas.

The company is recruiting across the UK and Ireland - and it already employs 30,000 people in the regions.

Domino’s sold seven pizzas per second between July and September this year, with the record standing at 13 per second on July 3.

Football buffs will know the significance of that date - it's when England took on Ukraine in the Euros .

Domino's said its delivery jobs are flexible, with evening and weekend work available if wanted.

The roles also offer job security and on-the-job training, the pizza giant said.

Previous delivery experience is not needed, and the firm says 90% of its store managers started as either drivers or cooks.

Tom Coker, 22, is manager of Domino’s Oldfield Park store in Bath.

He said: "I first started working at Domino’s in November 2020 when I was a student. The original plan was to be a part time driver, working around 15 hours a week to fit alongside my university commitments."

He started as a part-time delivery driver at the chain, then worked his way up to store manager - but says it has been hard work.

He said: "Thanks to hard work and the support from the team I quickly progressed from an in-store [worker] to a shift manager, then became an assistant manager, and finally a store manager a few months later – all within 10 months.

"I wouldn’t say it was easy to work my way up, but it is definitely achievable," he said. "You just need to get stuck in and show what you can do. If you want more training in different areas, all you need to do is ask and it will be provided.

"When I’m hiring, I look for people who have a desire to learn and are ready to get stuck in on the job. These are attributes which are possessed by all the best employees."

Domino's operations director Nicola Frampton said: “While 2021 has been a busy year for us so far, we still have our busiest period just around the corner. Our delivery drivers are vital to the service we provide our customers and the success of our business, so we’re really keen to hear from those wanting to join the Domino’s team."

The last big Domino's hiring spree was last July, when it took on 5,000 workers to plug the gap left by temporary staff returning to their pre-coronavirus jobs.

The pizza giant said it recruited thousands of people in the preceding year who were unable to work due to the spread of Covid-19.

It claimed many people stayed on in the company, but others since returned to their former work once businesses started reopening.

To plug the gap, the fast food giant took on thousands of chefs and delivery drivers to boost the workforce across its 1,100 stores in the UK.
