Domino's launches huge recruitment drive with 5,000 new jobs to fill

Domino’s has announced plans to hire 5,000 workers this month to plug the gap left by temporary staff returning to their pre-coronavirus jobs.

The pizza giant says it recruited thousands of people in the last year who were unable to work due to the spread of Covid-19.

It claims many people have stayed on in the company, but others have since returned to their former work now businesses have started reopening.

To plug the gap, the fast food giant says it is looking to employ thousands of chefs and delivery drivers to boost the workforce across its 1,100 stores in the UK.

Domino’s says demand for pizza “remains strong” after the takeaway service was allowed to remain open during the coronavirus pandemic.

Food chains were temporarily forced to close for large parts of 2020 but they could still offer delivery - meaning customers could order from home but not eat inside restaurants.

Domino’s told The Mirror that all its franchise stores pay staff at least the National Minimum Wage and National Living Wage, while its corporate stores pay team members above these amounts.

The National Living Wage - which is the minimum rate employers are allowed to pay employees aged 23 or over for each hour worked - is currently £8.91.

If you’re aged 22 or under, you’re paid the National Minimum Wage which varies depending on how old you are.

Those aged between 21 and 22 must be paid a minimum of £8.36 per hour, while it’s £6.56 for people aged 18 to 20, or £4.62 for under 18s.

For apprentice pay, the minimum wage you must get is £4.30.

Nicola Frampton, operations director at Domino’s said: “We were privileged to be able to to keep our doors open during the last 18 months supporting the nation to stay safe at home during lockdown.

“Throughout our recruitment drive last year, we were overwhelmed by the response from people of all walks of life.

“I’m proud we were able to play a part by offering people the opportunity to continue working and earning when times were tough.

“But as people start to reunite, customer demand is showing no signs of slowing and so we’re now looking for 5,000 new recruits.”
