Domino's bring back iconic pizza banned in pandemic - but only at certain stores

Takeaway giant Domino’s has confirmed that they’ve brought back a fan-favourite pizza just in time for the weekend. It comes after it was taken off the menu during the pandemic due to staff shortages.

It’s welcome news for couples who just can’t agree on toppings, while some like pineapple and others prefer a meaty medley. That’s right, it’s the return of half and half pizzas that’s bound to solve hanger-induced food-related arguments among friends and family.

The half and half pizzas - where you can have two totally contrasting pizzas in one - was temporarily removed from the menu in March 2020 as a result of the coronavirus pandemic.

Ex-Love Islander Shaughna Phillips was devastated at the time, tweeting: "Can someone please explain to me how the covid pandemic and @Dominos_UK not being able to do the half n half pizza are in anyway related?????????"

And the chain explained: "To ensure we meet the new regulations set out by local authorities we have made changes to our operations, the layout of our stores and simplified the menu to allow for better social distancing. "We’re sorry the half and half has been temporarily removed. This won’t be forever."

And while it might feel like it’s been forever, fear not, as the half and half pizzas are being slowly rolled back out into a small number of stores.

Domino’s told Manchester Evening News: “Yes the rumours are true, selected stores across the UK now have Half & Half back on the menu. Customers should check their local store online or via the app to find out if it’s available to them.”

Domino’s also recently introduced a delivery fee of up to £2 on orders due to rising costs of fuel and ingredients.

A Domino's spokesperson said: “We have introduced a small delivery charge because, like many businesses, Domino’s is facing increased labour, fuel and food costs. Our charges are low compared to many of our competitors, who are facing the same pressures and are already charging for delivery.”
