Domino's blasted by Love Island star for taking popular pizzas off the menu during pandemic

A former Love Island star has blasted pizza chain Domino's for withdrawing one of its popular dishes.

Shaughna Phillips, who was an Islander on the winter series of Love Island last year, has asked Domino's to explain why its half and half pizza has been taken off the menu.

The half and half is a chance for undecided customers to combine any two of its pizzas in one.

Shaughna was backed by her followers as she tweeted: "Can someone please explain to me how the covid pandemic and @Dominos_UK not being able to do the half n half pizza are in anyway related?????????"

When one follower said: "Best reason I could come up with is half and half are generally for sharing and in some way Dominos see that as a Covid risk."

And Shaughna, who fell for former Manchester scaffolder Callum Jones on the ITV2 dating show, which returns for a new series on Monday, replied with a laughing-face emoji: "Well more fool them if they think I’m sharing any of my pizza."

Another follower said: "Omg thank you for calling this out it has been stressing me out… You can create your own but not have a half n half pizza?!"

"The amount of times I’ve NOT ordered because they STILL don’t do half and half," another Twitter user told her.

And another joked: "Toppings have to practice social distance one type of toppings per base."

A Domino's worker told Shaughna: "I work in Dominos.

"We are on a reduced menu because our shop is a lot busier during lockdown with the same amount of staff and a half and half pizza takes longer so it does help us out."

And a Pizza Hut worker said: "Not sure on Domino's but at Pizza Hut we aren’t doing half and half because we have a reduced team and we are using a reduced menu because we can’t have as many staff in kitchen and it gets incredibly stressful trying to do everything else and keep the policy in place to keep the customers and staff safe. "But like I say not sure why dominos aren’t."

Domino's Pizza UK replied to explain that the half and half has been removed temporarily during the Covid-19 pandemic.

And the chain assured that it will be back on the menu.

"Hi Shaughna, these changes won’t be forever!" they tweeted.

"They have been put in place temporarily as we work to continue delivering to the nation during these challenging times.

"We continue to closely monitor the situation and when we can, half & half will be added back to the menu."

In December another Domino's customer asked the chain: "Someone actually explain to me why Dominos aren’t doing half nd half pizzas ???? @Dominos_UK explain yourself."

And the chain explained: "To ensure we meet the new regulations set out by local authorities we have made changes to our operations, the layout of our stores and simplified the menu to allow for better social distancing. "We’re sorry the half and half has been temporarily removed. This won’t be forever."
