Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie says he ‘really wasn’t done’

The Washington Redskins made one of the more interesting moves of free agency by grabbing Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie not only out of free agency, but retirement.

Rodgers-Cromartie signed a deal with the Redskins shortly after free agency started.

Despite declaring himself retired last year in the middle of the season with the Oakland Raiders, Rodgers-Cromartie says he wasn’t actually done with the game.

“I really wasn’t done, to be honest,” Rodgers-Cromartie said, according to Redskins.com. “I just had a lot of emotions [last year]. At the end of the day, I know I still have a lot in the tank, you know, make sure I maximize that.”

He explained what motivated him to walk away: “Just coming in late with the team, it’s hard to earn anyone’s respect. Me being a late signing you already have your system put together, you have your guys all together and you just go and bring a guy right off the streets, it was hard for me to get acclimated.”

Fair enough.

Rodgers-Cromartie joins a defensive backfield that could always use some veteran leadership and a general depth upgrade. He’ll reunite with former New York Giants star Landon Collins, which could partially explain his decision to come back to the NFL.
