Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie is embracing his role as a veteran

The retirement life wasn’t for Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie, he still has something left to give.

That’s why, earlier this year, the 11-year Pro Bowler decided to grab his cleats off of the shelf and get back into the game. Now, he is embracing his role as a veteran leader for the Washington Redskins and looking to make an impact on the next generation of NFL players.

While you would expect ‘DRC’ to become a mentor for young defensive backs, it is the Redskins newest quarterback that he has taken a liking to.

On the most recent episode of The John Keim Report podcast, Michael Phillips of the Richmond Times-Dispatch discussed how Rodgers-Cromartie has offered his experience as a veteran to Haskins, and the bond that they have formed in trying to get better.

“Every time Haskins throws his direction, the two of them huddle up and chat afterward and Haskins asks him ‘What did you see? Should I have thrown it there, where should I have put the ball?’” said Phillips. “What a great resource for a young quarterback, and how great that that quarterback is taking advantage of that resource.”

It is hard to grasp the levels of understanding that DRC has of the game of football after 11 seasons in the league, but it appears that he is offering up his knowledge to those who need it most. Phillips also mentioned the fact that Rodgers-Cromartie is still in good enough shape to make the 53-man roster, but even if he doesn’t see much playing time, his impact on the team will be crucial.
