Six ways Jurgen Klopp can set up his Liverpool midfield after Dominik Szoboszlai signing

Dominik Szoboszlai became the second summer signing for Liverpool after he was unveiled on Sunday.

The Reds captured the RB Leipzig and Hungary midfield after triggering his £60m release clause. He became the fourth most expensive signing behind the likes of Virgil van Dijk, Alisson and Darwin Nunez after penning a five-year deal.

He will become the latest player to wear the famous number eight shirt as the midfield overhaul continues. Alexis Mac Allister was the first piece in the puzzle after his £35m release clause was triggered seeing him swap Brighton & Hove Albion for Merseyside.

Liverpool will be competing in Europe again this season, albeit not in the competition they desire, after finishing in the Europa League places. The Reds will be looking to have an improved campaign than the last term where they appeared to be out of the hunt for qualification until their resurgent run late on.

Much of their success in the second half of the year came in a change of system for Jurgen Klopp's side. Curtis Jones enjoyed his best run in the squad, making 11 consecutive starts during their unbeaten run which featured nine wins.

The debate surrounding the Reds is around Trent Alexander-Arnold and whether he should be integrated into midfield. His form at the end of the campaign earned him a call-up to Gareth Southgate's England squad where he was named in the starting 11, wearing the number 10 shirt.

Szoboszlai played the majority of his football on the right-wing for RB Leipzig last season but began his career in Saxony in the middle. Joining the likes of Steven Gerrard in the list of players to wear the number eight shirt, suggests that his role in the squad will be from midfield.

Liverpool's midfield was overrun at times last season with their options limited throughout the campaign. The arrival of both the Hungary skipper and the World Cup-winning Argentine are the first bricks in the wall for the German head coach as he looks to rebuild the squad.

Injuries problems plagued selection options for Klopp last season as he was forced to switch between different systems. In some fixtures last term, he deployed a 4-3-3 formation, 4-2-3-1, 4-4-2 diamond as well as a double six 4-4-2.

It's clear that the avenue that could be explored further will see Alexander-Arnold continue his hybrid role but there will be options for rotation, should injuries permit.

Formations Dominik Szoboszlai could play in for Jurgen Klopp

Trent Alexander-Arnold - Fabinho - Dominik Szoboszlai - Alexis Mac Allister (3-2-2-3)

Dominik Szobozlai - Stefan Bajcetic - Alexis Mac Allister (4-3-3)

Dominik Szoboszlai - Jordan Henderson - Thiago (4-3-3)

Fabinho - Jordan Henderson - Dominik Szoboszlai, Attacking Midfield (4-2-3-1)

Curtis Jones - Jordan Henderson - Dominik Szoboszlai (4-3-3)

Dominik Szoboszlai - Fabinho - Alexis Mac Allister (4-3-3)
