Dominic West is 'set to play a cheating Prince Charles' in the final two series of The Crown.
The 51-year-old actor is reportedly being lined up to play the Prince of Wales as he embarked on an affair with Camilla Parker Bowles, according to The Sun.
This ironic move comes just days after married Dominic was pictured allegedly embracing Downton Abbey star Lily James during a trip to Rome.
A show insider reportedly told The Sun: "Show bosses looked at several stars for the sought-after role, but he was by far their preferred actor.
"Now both parties are hammering out a deal."
The source admitted that the "irony" of Dominic being cast in this role "will not be lost on anyone" after the fallout from the Rome photos.
Lily, 31, had recently split from former Doctor Who star Matt Smith, 37, who also played the Duke of Edinburgh in the early seasons of Netflix's royal hit.
Lily and Matt had tried to rekindle their relationship during the lockdown but found the romance wasn't there and they split for good following five years together.
There have been reports that Lily and Dominic were 'all over each other' at the airport being flying to Rome.
Dominic had already staged a bizarre reunion scene with his wife Catherine FitzGerald outside their Wiltshire home, where she held up a piece of paper reading: "Our marriage is strong and we're very much still together. Thank you."
In front of the assembled cameras, The Affair star and Cat hugged each other and kissed in a display of unity - though the actor hid his left hand inside his coat pocket so nobody could see if he was wearing a wedding ring.
After that, an eyewitness claimed they saw Dominic 'snogging and necking' Lily in front of other passengers, with the damning photos coming out days later after they were seen allegedly kissing at a restaurant.
