Dominic West apologises to Kate Garraway for 'insensitive' coronavirus comments

Dominic West has 'reached out' to Kate Garraway and apologised for comments he made about coronavirus.

The Wire actor appeared on Friday's Good Morning Britain, when talk turned to that day's big news - Donald Trump having coronavirus. Reacting to the announcement about the US President, Dominic said he was "jumping for joy".

His comment sparked Ofcom complaints from disgusted viewers and, addressing it on Twitter, Kate's GMB co-host Piers Morgan tweeted: "Imagine telling someone whose own husband is lying in a coma from coronavirus that you ‘jumped for joy’ when you heard others had caught the disease?"

It;s been six months since Kate's other half Derek Draper contracted COVID-19 and he is still in hospital, with the couple's children and other relatives unable to see him.

But she has now revealed that Dominic has been in touch to offer his heartfelt apology for his comment, claiming he was unaware of her husband's conition.

She explained on air: "I was surprised because I don't think Dominic meant...he's been in touch directly with me. He's been in touch to personally apologise to me.

"He wasn't aware Derek had had coronavirus and was still sick and was worried that I'd been upset by it.

"I wasn't upset, I was surprised. I don't think he meant that. I don't believe Dominic West would wish someone ill."
