We shouldn’t be surprised that Dominic Raab has refused to resign as Foreign Secretary.
He’s only the latest member of Boris Johnson’s Cabinet to be accused of a catastrophic failure of duty.
But even by the dismal standards of this Government, Raab should take a long look at himself and his actions.
While the Taliban was rolling into Kabul last weekend, our Foreign Secretary was sunning himself at a five star resort in Crete.
While still on holiday, Raab was urged by his own team in London to call his opposite number in Afghanistan to offer support.
Raab refused and the task was left to Lord Goldsmith, a failed Tory MP who was bumped up to the Lords after voters kicked him out in 2019.

As Labour leader Keir Starmer put it: “Who wouldn’t make a phone call if they were told it could save somebody’s life?”
Let’s be clear – that one phone call wouldn’t have made any difference to the Taliban’s advance.
But it speaks volumes of how the UK Government had effectively given up on Afghanistan.
Johnson and his Cabinet of no-talents are sticking to the line that no one could have seen the fall of Kabul happening so quickly.
Perhaps if they’d bothered to delay their holidays, they would have been in a better position to make a judgment call.
Tory ministers cannot wash their hands of responsibility for this foreign policy disaster.
Raab has failed to perform his basic duties and should be sacked without delay.
