Dominic Raab says Tory party is 'toast' if UK misses Brexit deadline

Dominic Raab has declared the Tory party 'toast' if the UK misses another Brexit deadline.

And the Tory PM hopeful again refused to rule out shutting down Parliament to force through a no-deal Brexit.

He's previously floated the idea of suspending - or 'proroguing' - Parliament if MPs tried to block Britain crashing out without a deal.

Today he told Sky News' Sophy Ridge he didn't think it was "something we want to do."

But he said he wouldn't rule it out because that would weaken Britain's negotiating position with the EU.

Earlier, Labour's Hilary Benn said such a move would be "scandalous".

"It would be scandalous to use that to try and in effect shut the doors of the House of Commons so that MPs can't meet and express a view ... I simply don't think it's going to happen," he told Sky News.

He went on to warn the Tory party would be 'toast' if October's deadline slipped again.

I think people need to wake up to this. We’ve seen from the Peterborough by-election, we’ve seen from the European elections, not just the frustration, the outrage…the scandal that people feel that we haven’t kept our promises on Brexit.”

Asked if he believed it could spell the end of the Conservative Party, he said: “I certainly think the Conservatives cannot win an election unless we’ve delivered Brexit.”
