Dominic McKay in Celtic touch of class as Parkhead author reveals shock phone call from new chief exec

Incoming Celtic chief executive Dominic McKay is seemingly getting stuck into at least some ambassadorial duties at Parkhead.

The man set to replace Peter Lawwell - officially not until July 1 as it stands - took time out of his Scottish Rugby schedule to phone up a gobsmacked Hoops fan who has just published a book on the club.

The news of the highly-rated exec's arrival at Parkhead has been roundly welcomed by fans but his arrival just weeks before Champions League qualification begins has left some apprehensive with a new manager and director of football to seek.

But an update from largest shareholder Dermot Desmond last week seemed to indicate that the new boss will be in place well before then - and certainly insisted McKay will be involved in the appointment.

And he's already shown a touch of class as he dialled diehard John Traynor for a chat and a congratulatory message regarding his new tome, 'A Paradise Anthology'.

Profits from the book will go to the club's charity, the Celtic FC Foundation, and the author told the Celtic State of Mind podcast he was shocked but touched when McKay called him out of the blue.

He said: "One Saturday morning, a few weeks ago, the phone went. 'Hello, is that John? This is Dominic McKay.'

"I thought, I don't know a Dominic McKay. Then the penny dropped.

"Dominic said: 'We've got this book, it looks great.'

"It was a wee polite conversation that spoke volumes for the man, that he took the time to do that.

"A few days later, Tony Hamilton from the Foundation phoned and he said he would like to do something and pass it on to his people and it rolled from there."

It's the kind of touch of class supporters will be pleased to see from their new decision-maker - not to mention an early use of 'we' in relation to his new club.

McKay may now be able to dedicate more time to preparing for his switch from rugby in Edinburgh to football in Glasgow after Scotland wrapped up their Six Nations campaign last Friday against France.
