Dominic Littlewood's chaotic MasterChef mishap as he cremates plastic timer

The One Show pundit and consumer champion Dominic Littlewood cooks a MasterChef first this week: a plastic timer.

Working at the Cinnamon Kitchen restaurant in London he is putting in a shift on the tandoor oven where he is supposed to be making lamb kebabs and garlic naan.

But the kitchen soon smells of burning plastic.

Dom says: “My plastic timer has gone in the oven, I’m going to need to get that out.

"Let’s be honest, chef, this is going disastrously wrong. I’ve burnt my hand and cremated six naan breads out of eight.”

He later presents a dish to Gregg Wallace and John Torode that is a carved-out pineapple, after being told some of his earlier food was “frightful” to look at.

Dominic is appearing in the second week of Celebrity MasterChef alongside film and TV actor Phil Daniels.

Also appearing will be drag artist Baga Chipz, Olympic hockey gold medallist and sports presenter Sam Quek and Karen Gibson, conductor for the Kingdom Choir.

Phil admits he was not a natural cook when he first started.

He says: “I’m here to cook for Quadrophenia, The Who and all the mods out there.

"I do a bit of cooking, I can chop an onion. I do stews and spaghetti bolognese.

"The first time I made myself sick but apart from that I do alright.”

* Celebrity MasterChef continues tonight at 9pm on BBC1
