Dominic Cummings swears during Government hearing forcing TV channels to apologise

Broadcasters were forced to issue a swift apology to viewers after Dominic Cummings swore while giving evidence to the Commons Health and Social Care and Science and Technology Committees on Wednesday, only for him to do it again.

Boris Johnson's former aide, who infamously went against Government coronavirus rules to travel to County Durham last year, addressed the committees on ministers' handling of the Covid pandemic, making damning claims against the Prime Minister and health secretary Matt Hancock in the process.

During his time in the hot seat, Cummings recalled a conversation he had about the Government's initial response to the pandemic with Helen MacNamara, the then deputy cabinet secretary.

He said: "Helen MacNamara said 'I've come through here to the Prime Minister's office to tell you all I think we are absolutely f*****.

"I think this country is headed for a disaster, I think we're going to kill thousands of people."

Cummings' evidence was broadcast on both BBC News and Sky News, with the BBC host quickly cutting in to apologise to viewers, saying: "I just want to apologise there if any of the language Dominic Cummings has used has offended you.

"It is live, of course, this committee hearing that we are watching."

Well known broadcaster Adam Boulton, who was at the helm of Sky's coverage, made a similar apology, saying: "We are listening to evidence from the former adviser to Boris Johnson and we apologise for the language used in quoting an official visiting Downing Street.”

Cummings swore once again when he later said: "We've got big problems coming. The Cabinet Office is terrifyingly s**t."

One of the most damning claims to come out of Cummings' evidence was his claim that Boris Johnson regarded coronavirus as "the new swine flu" and dismissed it as "a scare story."
