Dominic Cummings brands Matt Hancock a 'liar' who should have been sacked

Dominic Cummings has accused UK Health Secretary Matt Hancock of lying and says he should have been fired for “at least 15 to 20 things”.

As part of his bombshell evidence to MPs the former Boris Johnson aide said Hancock had lied “on multiple occasions in meeting after meeting in the Cabinet room and publicly”.

Cummings said one of Matt Hancock ’s lies was that everybody got the treatment they deserved in the first peak when “many people were left to die in horrific circumstances”.

Asked to provide evidence of the Health Secretary ’s lying, the former chief aide to the Prime Minister told the Commons committee: “There are numerous examples. I mean in the summer he said that everybody who needed treatment got the treatment that they required.

“He knew that was a lie because he had been briefed by the chief scientific adviser and the chief medical officer himself about the first peak, and we were told explicitly people did not get the treatment they deserved, many people were left to die in horrific circumstances.”

Cummings said that just before he and the PM fell ill, Hancock had told them in the cabinet room that everything was fine with PPE but that was not the case.

When challenged Hancock allegedly blamed Simon Stevens, chief executive of NHS England, and the chancellor Rishi Sunak whom Cummings pointed out as being supportive of an early lockdown.

Cummings said that afterwards the Cabinet Secretary told him he had lost confidence in Hancock’s honesty in these meetings.

Asked if he had notes of the claims Cummings said that he would supply these to the committee.
