Dominic Calvert-Lewin sets goal target after Everton hat-trick and praises James Rodriguez influence

Dominic Calvert-Lewin has reacted to Everton 's 5-2 win over West Brom and his hat-trick performance at Goodison Park.

Grady Diangana gave West Brom the lead before the home side hit back with goals from Calvert-Lewin and James Rodriguez.

Kieran Gibbs was sent off for the Baggies but Matheus Pereira equalised in the second half, only for Michael Keane and a Calvert-Lewin double to give Everton a 5-2 victory.

Calvert-Lewin spoke with BT Sport post-match and touched on the victory, the influence of Carlo Ancelotti and James Rodriguez, while he also talked about not getting complacent after a strong start to the 2020/21 Premier League campaign.

Calvert-Lewin told BT Sport: “I thought we started a little slow. West Brom hit us on the break and I thought we struggled early on to get it right. But it was a good day for myself, my first hat-trick in professional football and overall, a good team performance.

“My hamstring is fine. You look at the quality we’ve got on-the-ball now, it was important to utilise it with the extra man, and I think we did. We created space and we penetrated when we needed to and created chances. I was obviously happy to be in the box to tap them in.

“He’s (Ancelotti) helped me everyday for one-touch finishes, being in the box and being in the right areas to put the ball in the back of the net. Thankfully, today, I was and it’s nice to know that what I’m working on in training is happening on the pitch.

“For me, as a centre-forward, it’s always nice (to play with James). He’s played at the highest level and you can see the quality he’s got already. He’s settled right into the team and into the league. It’s not been too difficult for him. He’s got his goal today and I’m really happy for him.

“I think it’s important not to get carried away. It’s been a good day and a good performance, and we’re taking it game-by-game. Me, personally, every game, I’m aiming to get a goal, so I think I need to keep taking care of business here and scoring goals and playing well.”
