Dominic Calvert-Lewin roars FA Cup battle cry as Everton take competition seriously

Dominic Calvert-Lewin admits Everton are targeting FA Cup glory after they blew away Sheffield Wednesday 3-0.

Ex-Sheffield United forward Calvert-Lewin returned from two games out with a hamstring injury to open the scoring.

The England striker slotted in at the back post in the 29th minute from Andre Gomes' cross for his 15th this season.

The 1995 FA Cup winners cruised to victory after the break with headers by Richarlison and Yerry Mina from James Rodriguez corners.

The hosts then threw on Thierry Small in the 85th minute to become their youngest-ever player aged 16 years and 176 days.

Calvert-Lewin, after his first goal since December 5, said: “It feels good to be back in the goals.

“It is important, it is another chance to bring silverware to this club, which we have been working hard to bring back.

“It is a great opportunity to go all the way.

“We are taking it very seriously.

“It was a solid performance.”

Carlo Ancelotti's side will play the winner of Monday's clash between Wycombe and Spurs.

Left-back Small broke the record held by Jose Baxter, who made his debut aged 16 years and 191 days.

Blues coach Duncan Ferguson said: “It was a great moment for him.

“To be the youngest player in Everton history is fantastic, brilliant for him.

“He has a long way to go in his career but the manager has shown a lot of confidence in him.”

Colombian attacking midfielder Rodriguez got two assists from corners as he shone.

“He was sensational tonight,” added Ferguson.

“When he is on the ball he gives you time. He is world class.”

Owls caretaker Neil Thompson said: “We got picked off but that is always going to happen against Premier League teams.”
