Everton have yet to put an exact timescale on Dominic Calvert-Lewin's return from injury after concerns over a setback in his recovery.
The Blues' striker has been missing since sustaining a thigh injury in the win over Brighton at the end of August.
Rafa Benitez had hoped to be in a position to recall Calvert-Lewin to the squad in the coming weeks but it is believed the 24-year-old may have suffered complications in his rehabilitation.
Everton were asked about Calvert-Lewin's fitness by the ECHO, but the club have yet to respond.
There are some fears that the No9 could be sidelined for up to 12 weeks, but there is hope his absence will not be as long as that.

Following the defeat to West Ham United on Sunday, Benitez said that Richarlison was "closer" to a return than Calvert-Lewin.
And it is understood that Richarlison is hopeful of being passed fit to face his old club Watford on Saturday but Calvert-Lewin continues to face time out.
Everton's injury problems have been compounded today with the news that Abdoulaye Doucoure will be sidelined for a number of weeks after suffering a "stress response" in his foot during the defeat to West Ham.
The ECHO was told an operation was being lined for the midfielder but Everton have since said he will not need to go under the knife.
Benitez's options in midfield are limited with both Andre Gomes and Fabian Delph also still out.
