Dominic Calvert-Lewin celebration promise to Everton fan revealed after England goal

Dominic Calvert-Lewin kept his promise to dedicate a goal to Everton fan Chris Howgate when he bagged for England against San Marino in World Cup qualifying on Thursday.

Calvert-Lewin, who scored twice at Wembley, surprised Chris with a call - organised by Everton official global tyre partner Davanti Tyres - before the game in which he was asked to kiss his hand and point to the sky next time he scored.

The Everton striker said: "It was brilliant to speak to Chris last week and then to get the opportunity to do the celebration for him last night.

"I was always going to keep the promise and it was nice to do it for him in a game so many people around the country will have been watching.

"He's a massive Evertonian, a fantastic character, and it was great to be able to do something that's put a smile on his face. That one was for you, Chris."

A video of Chris, a fundraiser for Alder Hey Children's Hospital, crying after Calvert-Lewin bagged a late equaliser at Manchester United last month was watched almost 1m times on social media website Twitter.

And after the Everton striker netted his 23rd goal of the season, Chris' dad Dean admitted the gesture was 'something else'.

Dean said: "We just want to say a massive thank you to Dominic for everything."

"We were sitting watching the game last night, hoping he'd get a few goals for himself and then, when he scored and did the celebration, it was just incredible.

"Chris just kept saying, 'Wow, wow, wow'. He couldn't believe one of his heroes had done that for him.

"The reaction to the original video on Twitter [of Chris celebrating the goal against Manchester United] blew us away but to get the chance to speak to Dom last week and now this, it's something else and just fantastic what he has done for Chris.

"He's overwhelmed by it all but loving it at the same time."
