Dominic Calvert-Lewin admits recent Everton frustration in chasing secret goal target

Dominic Calvert-Lewin has admitted he has recently been frustrated at not finding the back of the net as much as he would have liked for Everton.

The Blues striker begun the campaign in fantastic fashion, particularly bagging six goals in his first four Premier League matches of the term to help his side top the table heading into the first international break.

His goalscoring form earned him his first England call-up and debut goal for the senior set up in a friendly against Wales in October.

Calvert-Lewin now has 18 goals in all competitions for Everton in 2020/21, but hasn't found the back of the net since the FA Cup victory over Spurs last month.

He admits that is a frustration to him as he chases a goal target he is keeping secret for now, but he's happy to still be contributing to the team picking up results.

The 23-year-old told talkSPORT : "My target is to score more goals!

"I have my own targets from the start of the season and I got off to a great start.

"I've been a little bit frustrated recently with perhaps not scoring as much as I would like, but I think the main thing is that I've more often than not still been affecting games and playing big parts in games to get us the three points in pivotal moments.

"When I'm not scoring, I want to keep affecting games like I have been doing."

Calvert-Lewin has shown fantastic progression as a striker ever since the arrival of Carlo Ancelotti at Goodison Park in December 2019.

But he points to experiences from his time as a youth player at Sheffield United as helping him to improve as quickly as he did as a youngster.

"I'll be honest, I've always wanted to be a footballer from the time I joined Sheffield United academy," he added.

"I was aware at a young age that if you played in the academy, you had a good chance at progressing as a footballer.

"I used to play in the age group above quite often, from the age of under-11s and under-12s I'd always play for the U13s or U14s - and when I was 14 I played for the U16s.

"I always played up which meant that everyone was bigger than me, I was only small at the time and very skinny.

"So I think that helped me progress quicker, but just from a young age I always wanted to play football."
