Dominic Calvert-Lewin admits Everton role has changed after Rafa Benitez arrival

Dominic Calvert-Lewin has described how his role at Everton has changed as he has matured over the years at Goodison Park.

The striker has got off to a strong start to 2021/22, bagging goals in each of his three Premier League appearances so far this term after posting his best-ever figures throughout last season.

The 24-year-old has fashioned himself into one of the top division's most dangerous forwards, and believes that his role within the club is changing as well.

The England international believes that he is becoming something of a leader in the squad and he is enjoying being a focal point at the top of the pitch for his teammates.

Calvert-Lewin told evertontv : “I think my role has changed as I’ve matured and grown older and gained more experience and I am more of a senior player in the team now.

”It is my responsibility to lead the team from the front and take the experience I’ve gained on to the pitch and be a leader.

“It is a role I am fully ready for and thoroughly enjoying.

“I have played a lot of games and know the club and what is expected and it is important to pass on that knowledge.”

A thigh strain kept Calvert-Lewin out of England duty over the course of the international break and denied him the chance to keep his strong momentum at the beginning of this campaign going.

The striker will hope to be back in action when Everton welcome Burnley to Goodison Park on Monday evening as domestic football returns.

And the 24-year-old has also opened up on being the kind of player who leads by example.

“I think there are different ways to be a leader. You can have people who are quiet and lead by example and players who are more vocal," he added.

“I like to think I’m a mixture of both.

“I just try to give my best for the team, score goals and lead in that way. Do things right and work hard and have that rub off on the rest of the guys.

“We want consistency of performance this season and that needs us to focus and do the right things and listen to what the manager is telling us every day.”
