Domenic Perre plea over NCA bombing murder charge delayed

A man charged with murder and attempted murder over the 1994 bombing of Adelaide's National Crime Authority (NCA) building needs more time to "negotiate" his legal aid arrangements before entering a plea, a court has heard.

Domenic Perre, 61, was arrested and charged by South Australia Police in February this year — more than two decades after the deadly CBD bombing.

Detective Sergeant Geoffrey Bowen — originally from Western Australia — was killed in the blast at the NCA office on Waymouth Street on March 2, 1994.

Lawyer Peter Wallis also suffered severe injuries.

Mr Perre was initially arrested and charged after the bombing, but those charges were later dropped.

His re-arrest this year followed a two-and-a-half year investigation involving SA Police, Forensic Science SA and the Australian Criminal Intelligence Commission.

In the Adelaide Magistrates Court, Perre's lawyer, Lindy Powell QC, asked Magistrate Paul Foley to adjourn the matter to allow her client more time to figure out funding arrangements for his legal team.

"[Today] shouldn't have been set down as an answer charge date," Ms Powell told the court.

"Your Honour would understand, with a matter like this, there have been various funding negotiations — or should I say problems — between the [Legal Services Commission] and the Government.

"They are progressing, and they are progressing well.

"What we would like is an adjourned date sometime closer to Christmas … and to keep the matter before the court … [because] that assists us with our negotiations."

Mr Foley agreed to adjourn the matter, and set a date for Perre to appear again in December.
