Dom Sibley pulls out of England Lions tour to Australia as ECB name replacement

Dom Sibley has officially withdrawn from the upcoming England Lions tour of Australia, with the opener deciding to work on his game at home instead this winter.

Sibley was one of four players in the Lions squad to have been capped by England at Test level, having lost his place in the Test side during the recent series against India and then his central contract.

In a statement, the ECB said: "After much thought and consideration, Warwickshire batter Dom Sibley has made the decision not to tour Australia with the England Lions.

"Sibley has decided to spend the winter working on his batting at home in a bid to regain England selection."

Yorkshire star Harry Brook has been named as Sibley's replacement, with the 22-year-old enjoying a breakout summer that culminated in him winning the PCA Young Player of the Year award.

Brook scored a total of 486 runs at an average of 69.42 in the T20 Blast this year and also made 189 runs at an average of 47.25 for the Northern Superchargers in the inaugural edition of The Hundred.

In the County Championship, Brook made 797 runs, two hundreds and five fifties for his county, with former England opener Adam Lyth the only Yorkshire player to score more runs.

Brook's call-up to the Lions squad is an opportunity for him to capitalise on that form and push his case for international recognition.

Current England star Jos Buttler is a big admirer of the youngster and believes he has a "really exciting future" ahead of him.

"I really like the look of Harry Brook, I thought he had a really fantastic T20 Blast and The Hundred," Buttler said. "I watched quite a few games and I like the way he played and I like the options he had.

"I think he looks like someone with a really exciting future. He's a Yorkshireman so you hear from Rooty and Jonny [Bairstow] that he's a pretty talented guy, so I think he's certainly one to watch."
