Dolphins WR Albert Wilson returns to action in 16-13 win over Saints

Each NFL team’s fourth preseason game is typically reserved for bottom of the roster players looking to scratch and claw their way onto a 53-man roster — the vast majority of starters wouldn’t even bother dressing for a fourth preseason game. But the Dolphins saw a rare exception of that last night with the return of wide receiver Albert Wilson to the fray. Wilson caught two throws on two targets — his first formal action since going down with a hip injury midway through the 2018 season.

It was a great chance for Wilson to give himself a final test drive before gearing up for a return to regular season play Week 1 against the Baltimore Ravens — and Wilson himself was pleased to get back on the field.

“It felt really good — just getting out there and competing against someone else besides our own teammates and just getting hit, just doing what I love again,” said Wilson on the sideline of last night’s game.

“I felt pretty good getting out there for the couple of plays I had.”

The Dolphins certainly didn’t try their luck with Wilson, but they did manage to get him the ball three times. And with the uncertainty around Miami’s offense this season, the Dolphins will need to have the ball out quickly, making players like Albert Wilson all that much more important to the team’s hopes of winning.

The big test now for Wilson? Staying healthy all season. Wilson has played a full 16 game schedule just once in his 5-year NFL career, back in 2016 with the Chiefs. Adding another year of fully healthy play to his resume will help with the stability on offense for Miami .
