Dolphins will reportedly seek four starting-caliber offensive linemen

The Miami Dolphins are going to have to conduct some heavy construction to overhaul their offensive line this season. That should serve as no surprise, given that the team has struggled to get this unit right for the better part of the last decade. After the decision to trade OT Laremy Tunsil in August, the argument could be made that the Dolphins needed a completely new line for the future.

And now it seems as though the Dolphins know it, too. Miami, according to Barry Jackson of the Miami Herald, is reportedly in the market for “four or so” new starters on the offensive line in 2020. If that’s the plan, Dolphins fans should celebrate — it’s high time the team’s offensive line issues are not just addressed but rather fully invested into. Here’s how Jackson framed Miami’s mindset:

“The Dolphins are expected to seek four or so starting-caliber offensive linemen or legitimate starting contenders. The Dolphins haven’t told Jesse Davis whether they see him staying at right tackle or moving back to guard, and input will be solicited from new offensive line coach Steve Marshall and others. Either way, Davis will very likely be a starter next season.” – Barry Jackson, Miami Herald

If you’re fed up with Miami’s dysfunction and inconsistency on offense, this should serve as music to your ears. Miami’s protection issues over the years provide plenty of blame to fall at the feet of coaches, players and the quarterback alike — but to finally commit to investing in the group instead of just addressing a glaring need would be a breath of fresh air for Miami in 2020 and beyond.
