The Miami Dolphins have experiences some heavy losses in the secondary. Safety Reshad Jones hasn’t played in more than half of Miami’s contests thus far this season. DB Minkah Fitzpatrick was traded after Miami’s Week 2 loss to the New England Patriots for a 1st-round pick. CB Xavien Howard has been placed on the injured reserve list.
And yet despite nearly a year to recover, Dolphins cornerback Cordrea Tankersley will not get the call to action in 2019. The third year cornerback started this season on the Physically Unable to Perform (PUP) list after tearing his ACL in practice for the Dolphins mid-season. The hope was that Tankersley could be bought enough time at the start of the year to get himself in playing shape and be ready to step in as a part of the Dolphins’ evaluation efforts this spring — but that will not materialize. The Dolphins needed to make a decision on Tankersley yesterday and ultimately decided against bringing him back into the fray.
With the losses the Dolphins have experienced, it could be considered a bit of a surprise — yet also consider that the Dolphins have a plethora of defensive backs on their 53-man roster already. 13 of them, to be exact. And so Tankersley must now hope that the coaches see enough potential in him between now and the start of the 2020 season that he’s given the chance to stick on the roster. And with nearly two years of recovery, between now and Week 1 of 2020, there’s little doubt Tankersley will be at 100%.
