Dolphins visit with Teddy Bridgewater offers no immediate resolution

Welcome to Teddy Bridgewater watch, everyone. It was announced on Tuesday that the Dolphins were effectively out of the running for free agent quarterback Teddy Bridgewater and that the quarterback would be returning to New Orleans. That, the word from NFL Network’s Jane Slater.

Shortly thereafter on Tuesday, 3 Yards Per Carry stated their sources suggested Miami had never even offered Bridgewater a contract.

But this story turned quickly, as Bridgewater’s imminent re-signing with the Saints turned out to be a false alarm. So much so that the Dolphins hosted Bridgewater on a free agent visit last night at the team facility.

The visit culminated in anti-climatic fashion, with the team announcing that the visit with Bridgewater was finished — but no additional information was provided.

While the Dolphins and Saints wait for Bridgewater to make up his mind, there are a few reasons for both sides to feel optimistic.

From the Dolphins’ perspective, Bridgewater is a South Florida native and would be given the chance to start in Miami, whereas he’d be regulated to clipboard duty in New Orleans.

From the Saints’ perspective, the team has a succession plan in place for Brees if Bridgewater returns. And there’s zero question which team will be more competitive in the immediate future: it is the Saints.

Expect the next domino to follow in the near future. With Bridgewater, Miami would gain a price friendly, young passer eager to prove he can still play at a high level. That’s the perfect risk to consider taking, should Teddy take the risk and bet on himself.
