Dolphins try out a quartet of tight ends on Monday

Heading into Sunday’s game against the Baltimore Ravens, the Miami Dolphins were without tight ends Cethan Carter and Hunter Long, as they were dealing with a concussion and ankle injury, respectively.

Undrafted rookie Tanner Conner, who was active for the Week 2 contest, was also on the injury report last week with a knee injury.

With Carter and Long’s statuses unknown for their next game against the Buffalo Bills, Miami worked out four tight ends on Monday – Darrell Daniels, Ryan Izzo, James O’Shaughnessy and Deon Yelder.

Daniels was signed by the Indianapolis Colts as an undrafted free agent in 2017 and has bounced around the league, spending part of this offseason with the Houston Texans. In his career, he’s recorded 13 receptions for 122 yards and a touchdown.

Izzo was a seventh-round draft selection of the New England Patriots in 2018, who was traded to the Texans before the start of the 2021 season. He’s been on five teams in the last year, never really making it beyond the practice squad. He recorded 19 receptions for 313 yards and a touchdown all in New England.

O’Shaughnessy was drafted by the Kansas City Chiefs in the fifth round of the 2015 draft. He spent two seasons there before moving between the Patriots, Jacksonville Jaguars and Chicago Bears in recent years. He’s by far the most accomplished of this list, recording 112 receptions for 1,108 yards and three touchdowns in his career.

Yelder went undrafted in 2018 and was signed by the New Orleans Saints and has spent time on six other teams since then, spending this past offseason with the Arizona Cardinals. He’s produced 86 yards on 11 career receptions.

Hopefully, Long and Carter will return from their ailments soon, but Miami’s keeping their Rolodex updated incase they don’t.
