Dolphins to replace local HS football team’s equipment after fire

In an offseason filled with giving and charity, the Miami Dolphins organization has made a powerful impact on a countless number of lives in the South Florida community. Those fighting cancer, those looking to go to college, young student athletes and Special Olympics athletes alike had all had their lives touched by the Miami Dolphins — this organization is a football team first and foremost but they’ve been so much more than that.

So naturally, when the news broke that Miami Edison high school had experienced a fire — one that had knocked out effectively all of the team’s football equipment — the Miami Dolphins answered the call.

The fire, which was under investigation as a suspicious incident but has thus far been ruled as a non-intentional, knocked out the team’s “bags, dummies, field markers, etc”.

This isn’t the first time this offseason that the Dolphins have stepped up to replace equipment, but it is the first time that they’ve volunteered to step up and help in immediate response to an accident.

According to Omar Kelly of the Sun Sentinel, Miami Edison is still reeling from the tragic death of one of their student athletes — 17-year old Richecarde Dumay was killed after being struck by a driver waiting on a bus. Here’s hoping the Dolphins’ act of kindness can offer some semblance of comfort for Miami Edison as they look to cope with a trying summer.
