Dolphins to play Saints in London next season

Apparently, if you rush for 200 yards back-to-back games the Dolphins will play a game in your native city the following season.

The Dolphins are scheduled to play the New Orleans Saints in London in 2017 _ Miami's third trip across the pond in four years _ the team confirmed Sunday.

That's of course where running back Jay Ajayi was born. In reality, though, the Dolphins are going back to London because the NFL passed a resolution in October 2014 that states teams must host an international game within five years of winning a bid to host the Super Bowl.

The Dolphins were approved in May to host Super Bowl LIV in 2020. So, they will give up a home game for this 2017 trip overseas, meaning there will only be seven regular-season home games at Hard Rock Stadium next year.

The date and location of the London game have yet to be determined. The NFL played three games in the English capital this year _ two at Wembley Stadium and one at Twickenham Stadium, a historic rugby venue.

The Dolphins' three previous games in London were all played at Wembley.

Miami was the designated home team in 2015 when the Dolphins lost to the New York Jets, 27-14. They were the road team for a 38-14 win over the Oakland Raiders in 2014 and the home team for a 13-10 loss to the New York Giants in 2007.

That game against the Giants was the first of 17 NFL regular-season games played in London since the league's "International Series" began in '07.

In addition to the three NFL games that were played in London this season _ including Sunday's tie between the Washington Redskins and Cincinnati Bengals _ the Raiders and Houston Texans will play in Mexico City on Nov. 21.

The Jacksonville Jaguars and Los Angeles Rams are also scheduled to host London games in 2017, with their opponents yet to be determined.
