Dolphins tender four exclusive-rights free agents

The Miami Dolphins’ long wait to the start of free agency is nearly over. The team appears to be using every possible hour of time available to continue their “evaluation” process of the players on this team. Their efforts lie with determining who they want to be a part of this rebuilding process and who doesn’t fit the vision.

A few young players got the call yesterday and, at least for now, will be in the mix this summer. The Dolphins have tendered four exclusive-rights free agents.

The most prominent of these signings is Jesse Davis, who has started 26 games in his two seasons with the Dolphins. Davis is credited with play 72 percent of the team’s snaps last season.

In an ideal world, Davis is relegated to a role as a depth player for the Dolphins in 2018. His play, while admirable for an undrafted free agent from Idaho in 2015, is not to par for what Miami needs to have a tone-setting offense line.

Asiata could be a player for the Dolphins based on his old college film, yet his complete lack of development after two years shouldn’t offer much inspiration that the former fifth-round pick is going to offer any quality play for the Dolphins.

Zach Sterup, a third-year player out of Nebraska, has started one game in each of the last two seasons. He’ll be leveraged as insurance until the team identifies their plan with the right tackle position.

Woodard may be the most interesting of the group, given his flashes this past year in his first career NFL action. He played well in games against New England and Chicago last season, look for him to be the sleeper of this group going forward.
