Dolphins slide back in Touchdown Wire’s Week 3 power rankings despite win

The Miami Dolphins went into Gillette Stadium this weekend and defeated the New England Patriots in what was one of the more interesting games of the Week 2 slate.

Mike McDaniel’s squad showed improvement on the defensive side of the ball, holding New England to just 17 points while keeping getting to Mac Jones four times and recording two takeaways. The offense was slowed a bit compared to their Week 1 showing, but Tua Tagovailoa and Raheem Mostert still did enough to lead them to victory.

With the season in full swing now, Touchdown Wire’s Jarrett Bailey is producing weekly power rankings, and after leaping up to No. 5 for Week 2, the Dolphins slid back a spot to No. 6 for Week 3.

Here’s what Bailey wrote about Miami after their Week 2 win over their AFC East rival:

“You remember that scene in The Longest Yard where Unger is telling the guards about Nelly’s character Earl Megget and he says “He makes fast people look not fast?” That’s everyone on the Dolphins’ offense. Tyreek Hill was held mostly in check, but Jaylen Waddle had a huge night, and Raheem Mostert ran all over the Patriots’ defense. The Olympic track team Dolphins are going to be a problem all season, and are right in the thick of things in terms of being one of the league’s best teams.”

Ahead of the Dolphins now are the Buffalo Bills (No. 5), Kansas City Chiefs (No. 4), Philadelphia Eagles (No. 3), Dallas Cowboys (No. 2) and San Francisco 49ers (No. 1).

The Bills are the lone team that jumped Miami after they downed the Las Vegas Raiders this past weekend 38-10.
