Dolphins sign veteran offensive tackle Jordan Mills to one-year contract

Now that the deadline for the compensatory pick formula has passed, the second wave of free agency has officially begun. The Miami Dolphins responded by signing former Bills offensive tackle Jordan Mills to a one-year, $3 million dollar deal, per ESPN’s Adam Schefter.

The 28-year old Mills has started all sixteen games at right tackle for Buffalo these past three seasons, and he’ll immediately come in to compete with Zach Sterup and newly drafted OT Isaiah Prince out of Ohio State for the starting job in Miami.

Mills has not set the NFL on fire by any means with his blocking prowess, there aren’t a lot of Bills fans losing sleep over the fact that Mills has moved on to a division rival. Pro Football Focus would agree with this sentiment, as he’s been graded as the 29th best pass blocking OT among 33 players who played at least 80% of their team’s snaps in 2018, while being 31st out of 33 in run blocking.

The hope is that either Mills can take a step forward here in Miami or that Isaiah Prince can win the starting job in training camp, allowing Mills to take on the role formerly held by veteran Sam Young, who is still currently a free agent and spent his time in Miami as a serviceable backup.
