Dolphins sign tailback Jeremy Langford

The Miami Dolphins have added a familiar back to their stable of tailbacks, signing former Chicago Bear Jeremy Langford.

Langford played for coach Adam Gase and offensive coordinator Dowell Loggains when both were on the Bears coaching staff. In his rookie season in 2015, Chicago's former fourth-round pick rushed for 537 yards and six touchdowns on 148 carries. He also caught 22 passes for 279 yards and scored one receiving touchdown.

In 2016 Langford began the year as a starter before an injury forced him out of the rotation, opening the door for Jordan Howard to finish the season second in the NFL in rushing.

Langford, 26, was cut in 2017 coming out of the preseason, and spent some time on the Baltimore Ravens and New York Jets 53-man roster and practice squad. The Jets signed him to a futures contract but released him before this year's draft.

Langford, a former Michigan State standout, has played in 28 games with five starts during his career and has rushed for 737 yards and 10 touchdowns on 210 carries. He's caught 41 passes for 421 yards and one touchdown.

Langford will likely be competing with Senorise Perry, a holdover from last year's Dolphins roster, for the spot behind Kenyan Drake, Frank Gore and Kalen Ballage, Miami's 2018 fourth-round pick.

Brandon Radcliff, who spent a good portion of last season on Miami's practice quad, and Buddy Howell, a rookie from Florida Atlantic, are also in the mix, and will likely receive a heavy workload during the exhibition season.

The Dolphins will keep three or four tailbacks on the 53-man regular-season roster, and carry at least one on the practice squad.
