They say that football is a game of attrition — those who can withstand the most and keep going will find the most success. And for the Dolphins, who started this season with so little at so many positions, the lack of depth has continued to cause this team to churn the bottom of the roster on a weekly basis. This week will be no different, as the Dolphins have released DL Robert Nkemdiche and placed WR Preston Williams on the injured reserve list — giving Miami two open spots for new talents to try their luck to make a good impression in Miami.
The Dolphins have agreed to terms with a new defensive back and a new running back — opting for experience in the secondary and some promising youth in the backfield. Miami has signed DB Marcus Sherels and RB De’Lance Turner to help provide the needed depth to help them get through this 2019 gauntlet of a season.
Sherels joins the team and is automatically one of the oldest players on the roster — he’s 32 years old and has logged 10 years of league experience, all with the Minnesota Vikings until now. Sherels best season came in 2013, where he logged his only career interception and 46 total tackles on the year.
De’Lance Turner comes to Miami off of the Baltimore Ravens practice squad — he was an undrafted free agent in the 2018 NFL Draft out of Alcorn State. His presence is needed courtesy of the Mark Walton suspension and the Kenyan Drake trade, leaving Miami with Kalen Ballage, Patrick Laird and Myles Gaskin available at the position. Turner will now be on call — just in case.
