Dolphins sign offensive lineman Bryan Witzmann

The Miami Dolphins spent little time making use of the roster spot opened up by the trade of former 1st-round defensive back Minkah Fitzpatrick. And the Dolphins, instead of elevating one of their own members of the practice squad, chose to target offensive lineman Bryan Witzmann, who most recently spent time with the Cleveland Browns this August.

Witzmann has positional flexibility — the Dolphins have listed him as a guard/tackle on their transaction wire.

At 6-foot-7, 320 pounds, Witzmann is a big bodied blocker who left South Dakota State back in 2014 before latching on with the Houston Texans. His highest peak came in Kansas City — he started 13 contests for the Chiefs between the years of 2016 and 2017 before stepping into a reserve role and starting 7 games last season for the Chicago Bears.

The Dolphins offensive line, quite frankly needs all the help it can get based on the performance over the first two weeks of the season. There will be no shortage of openings on Miami’s roster for 2020 and beyond, so look for Witzmann to impress the coaching staff enough to warrant keeping him around during next spring’s second massive overhaul of the team.
