Dolphins sign defensive back Tyler Patmon

The Miami Dolphins have agreed to terms with defensive back Tyler Patmon, adding him to the 90-man roster on the cusp of their 2019 training camp kickoff. The move to sign Patmon comes on the heels of Miami cutting former Alliance of American Football (AAF) standout Jamar Summers — a swap that provides the Dolphins with a significant boost in experience for one of their contenders to latch on to the bottom third of the opening day roster.

Patmon will call South Florida “home” for the second time with this signing — he played in a handful of games for the Dolphins back in 2015 after spending a majority of the season with the Dallas Cowboys. This time around, Patmon brings a little extra seasoning to the Dolphins, as he’s spent the last two years as a consistent contributor to the Jacksonville Jaguars — playing behind ferocious cornerbacks like Jalen Ramsey and A.J. Bouye.

The signing is a great opportunity for Patmon, too. He comes to a team who figures to keep a lot of defensive backs in play in 2019 and beyond — the Dolphins have several fixtures who will be consistent contributors in the defensive backfield — but Patmon and his several years of NFL experience may help him push the likes of Cornell Armstrong and Jalen Davis for a spot on Miami’s final 53.
